I made this coat in 64 hours and 34 minutes, including 16 hours and three minutes during which I cut out and sewed the lining. The black French coat fabric is special. The coat fits well, looks elegant.
Black wool fabric, without a collar, with short, fitted sleeves. Fitted silhouette. Designed for cool summer days. The front is adorned with black monkey’s fur. Fastened with two pairs of ties.
Yellow woollen coat
This coat was made in 1963. When I made a suit for Gita, I knew there would be a coat as well. They were conceived of as one outfit. After 43 hours of work on the coat and 16 hours on the lining, the coat is finished. Haircloth is used mainly for coats. Fits perfectly. I am pleased to attach my designer’s label: “Herma Balodis, New York”.
In 1962 coats without fasteners were in vogue in New York. I thought it was awkward, but the girls liked this design.
